About Dr. Sharma



Dr. Sharma is the CEO of Texas Cancer Associates in Dallas, Texas and has been a member of the clinical faculty, practicing at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas since 1993. In addition, he is CEO of HealthIT, Inc. — an internet services company, supporting the patient/provider network with technology solutions. He is also the founder of NexGen Oncology, bringing next generation cancer care to the oncology field and other practices by providing solutions for the diagnosis, management, and treatment of cancer.

Dr. Sharma is Texas trained and graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a B.S. in Biology in 1983. He completed his medical education at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas in 1987. Following an internship and residency at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio, Dr. Sharma was instructor and clinical fellow of medical oncology at the same institution. He is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology.

As an oncologist, Dr. Sharma has been at the forefront of cancer research, working to accelerate the delivery of new drugs from the “bench to the bedside.” His publications include medical oncology-related articles in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of the National Cancer Institute as well as articles relating to healthcare technology including those published in The Dallas County Medical Society Journal and Oncology Issues. In addition, Dr. Sharma has co-authored an industry report for the Financial Times of London on E-Business for the pharmaceutical industry.

As a leader in the healthcare and technology fields, Dr. Sharma has received numerous honors for his industry leadership, teaching efforts and dedication to patient care. He has been voted “Best Doctors in Dallas” by his peers on multiple occasions and included in the “Winner’s Circle of Best Doctors in Dallas” (D Magazine, 2004). He has served on the Medical Board, Presbyterian Hospital Dallas from 1999 to 2001 and as Chair, MIS Council Texas Health Resources in 2001.

He is a presenter/speaker to various medical groups and organizations on topics ranging from cancer treatments to advanced medical technologies. Dr. Sharma is a member of the American Medical Association (AMA), the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the American Association of Cancer Research (AACR), the College of Health Information Management Executives (CHIME), Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS), and the American College of Physician Executives (ACPE).

Born in Amritsar, India, Dr. Sharma is fluent in Hindi and Punjabi as well as English and Spanish and has studied German, French, Latin, and Sanskrit. Dr. Sharma is an advocate of best patient care practices, education, innovation, and in making meaningful, individual contributions that make an impact on the societies in which we live.
